If you get a call from an unknown number, be careful. Phone scams are getting more convincing. Here is what you can do:
Use a phone number lookup like this one. Other people may already have reported the number as a scam or a sales call.
If you don't know the number and aren't expecting a call, let it go to voicemail. Genuine callers usually leave a message or send a text.
If someone says they are from your bank, HMRC or a delivery company, hang up and call the organisation back on the number from its official website or your card.
Never give your National Insurance number, card details, online banking passwords or one-time passcodes over the phone. A genuine organisation will not ask for them.
Add a report here to warn others. You can also forward scam texts to 7726, report nuisance calls to Ofcom and register your number with the Telephone Preference Service (TPS).
Most smartphones let you block a number, so you will no longer get calls or texts from it.
